Guidelines

Purpose

To bring together the international business community in the Cuyo region and provide a venue for non-Argentine executives, entrepreneurs and investors to meet, share information and coordinate business activities.

Officers

President - Duffy Crane (president@mendozaexpats.org)
Vice President - Open for Appointment
Charity Coordinator - Open for Appointment (charity@mendozaexpats.org)
Secretary - Open for Appointment (secretary@mendozaexpats.org)

Note: Officers of the club receive no compensation whatsoever for their service.

Members

Membership is open to anyone who is a citizen of a country other than Argentina and is actively doing business in the Cuyo region. One does not have to be a resident to participate.

Fees

The yearly Membership Fee is $20 pesos for each month remaining until the end of the year, and is used to pay for the Club Web site, membership directory, membership cards, Club promotional activities, and accounting costs. Any remaining funds at the end of the year are donated to a local charity.

The cost to attend each luncheon varies, but is usually about $65 pesos for members who show their membership card and $75 pesos for guests.

Feedback

Suggestions for improvement should be made in writing (to secretary@mendozaexpats.org).

Official Language

Because the Club is business-oriented and English is the world language of business, English is the official Club language. However, native speakers of all other languages are welcome to attend and are not required to speak in English during the luncheons.

Mailings

Members who wish to send an email message to the membership list must do so in coordination with the Club Secretary, who will review, approve and resend the message. This is to avoid spamming of the members and ensure the quality and relevance of emails sent to the entire list.

Composition of the Club

The Club is open to men and women of all nationalities, except Argentine, who are actively doing business in the Cuyo region (the provinces of Mendoza, San Juan and San Luis). Non-residents may be members so long as they have invested in or are otherwise doing business in Cuyo.

Luncheon Guidelines

Arrival Time

Members should arrive on time at 1:30 pm in order to make payment, meet the other attendees, and enjoy pre-lunch drinks. Those who have not pre-confirmed their attendance at the luncheon by email to secretary@mendozaexpats.org will not be admitted.

Seating Time

Lunch will be preceded by introductions and toasts from the Club co-sponsors and the wine sponsor of the month. The doors to the banquet room will be closed promptly at 2:00 pm and lunch will be served. Seating is limited and not guaranteed, so arriving after 2:00 pm is considered inconvenient and impolite.

Frequency

Luncheons are usually held on the last Friday of every month. Occasionally, the day will be changed because of special circumstances such as public holidays.

Attire

Because the purpose of the Club is to bring together the international business community in Mendoza and because luncheons are generally held in a formal venue such as a five-star hotel, attendees are encouraged to wear business attire.

Protocol

Club luncheons should not be used as a venue for sales activities or the pitching of investment opportunities. Members and guests should bear this in mind in order to ensure that everyone enjoys their meal and that no one is made to feel pressured.

Penalty for Confirmation but Non-arrival

Anyone who has confirmed, does not arrive, and does not advise the Club secretary prior to midnight of the day before the luncheon shall be charged the cost of their meal.

Attendance without Confirmation

Attendance is by invitation only with RSVP. The deadline for confirmation is the day prior to the luncheon, although luncheons are often fully booked beforehand.

Members should respond to the email invitation within 48 hours of receipt with a simple “yes, I will attend” or “no, I will not attend” so that the Club secretary knows the invitation was received.

Payment

Payment should be made at the door of the banquet room upon arrival. No one will be admitted to the luncheon who has not first paid at the door or who has not pre-confirmed their attendance via email to secretary@mendozaexpats.org.

Non-replies to Invitations

To be maintained on the mailing list, one must respond to luncheon invitations with a simple “yes, I will attend” or “no, I will not attend. Those on the mailing list who do not respond to three consecutive invitations will be removed from it.

Membership List

The names, titles and Web site addresses of all members will be posted on the Mendoza Expats Club Web site unless a member requests in writing that his or her information not be published. Email addresses and contact information will be kept strictly confidential, except for printed directories of luncheon attendees.

Those who do not wish that their contact information be published must state so in writing to the Club Secretary.

Smoking

For reasons of health, cleanliness, and respect for non-smokers, smoking is not permitted.

Duration

Luncheons formally end at 4:00 pm. Members who wish to remain in the hotel may choose to have drinks in a public area (café, casino, bar, etc.) at their own expense.
